APH: Matt and the Milk Bar

In the immortal words of Pewee Herman, “This is crack.” No seriously, this is, bar none, the most random, weirdest thing I’ve drawn in my life. And it was so much fun! I literally laughed out loud multiple times thinking this up and drawing this, so I hope that it’s actually a bit funny, and I’m not just really odd. Yes, it’s very sketchy, but this was meant to be quick and dirty, so it’s intentional.

This bit of incredible randomness came about while I was talking with my friend KitakLaw about an upcoming chapter in her APH historical fic “Brother of Absalom,” wherein she was talking about her head-canon’s version of Canada finding out about the Franco-American Alliance during the American Revolutionary War. I said I envisioned him going out to a bar and ordering himself a stiff drink, but since he’s physically too young to drink, he’d just go to a milk bar instead (idea shamelessly ripped from dragonnova’s milk bar comics, the first of which can be found here.). The idea amused us both, and my imagination kicked into overdrive. This was the end result.

So, just to clarify, this is Kitak’s version of Matthew, which means he’s physically a child during the Revolutionary War, and therefore here (though I think he looks a bit too young. Ah well, I need practice drawing children anyway). He has a very dry, sarcastic wit about him, and at this point in time, he’s not exactly on the best of terms with England personally, (or France, or America, for that matter), hence his little rant to the bartender in panels 6 and 7. I hope I didn’t butcher his voice too badly, Kitak, but, then again, this is just for fun, so I hope a little OOCness is forgivable.

Oh, and the reason he gets so freaked out about Kumajiro showing up is because Kuma doesn’t exist in Kitak’s stories. Thusly, Matthew is justifiably disturbed when a mini polar bear appears and starts talking to him.

And no, he is not drunk at any point in time in this comic. C’mon, it’s only milk, people! He’s just a bit high off the all the sugar from syrup that got dumped in his mug.

Anyway, I hope you got at least a smile out of this bit of randomness, and thanks for reading, if you’ve stuck with me this long. And a special thanks goes to Kitak, for helping to inspire this.

EDIT: Okay, so apparently, Matt was on better terms with Arthur than I thought by the time the Franco-American Alliance rolled around than what I showed in the comic. Just thought I'd clear that up.
