Description

First off, WOOOO, my character Hinge Eisenberg got accepted into :iconthehungergamesoct: next Hunger Games! [link] :icondummydanceplz: I’m so happy. :iconsohappyplz:

Now, as for this, I came up with both D6 mentors for the 60th Hunger Games OCT literally months ago (with my district partner ~Kintupsi’s full permission), but lo and behold, they actually made an app for mentor characters when the roster for the next OCT was posted. 83 Unfortunately, there’s a limit of only one mentor app per person, so Kin will be making the second app, even though the character is still mine.

In any case, this is Flywheel Philips, victor of the 49th Hunger Games and the most recent victor from District 6. I hope you like her! ^_^

Name:
Flywheel Philips

Age:
26

District:
6

Health issues:
Occasionally suffers symptoms of PTSD and Depression.

Body type:
Average; fit. She gets more than enough to eat nowadays, but she will work out occasionally to keep herself in shape.

Eye Colour:
Dark brown

Hair Colour:
Brown

Family:
-Hertz Philips: Father (deceased)- Died from chronic heart failure when Flywheel was two. She doesn’t remember much about him.
-Tern Philips: Mother (50) – Works as a nurse at the sorry excuse for a hospital in the district. Runs a small apothecary on the side. Taught her daughters everything she knows about medicine and herbs. Flywheel loves her dearly, and they have a good relationship.
-Chromia Philips: sister (30) –Married the district cobbler and has two kids, both of whom Flywheel adores. She and Chromia have drifted apart over the years, though they still care deeply about each other.
-Fred and Mary Rodsworth: Grandparents (deceased) –Worked in the airship factory until their deaths two and three years after Flywheel won her Games, respectively. Were like a second set of parents to her.

Significant other:
None. She doesn’t want to risk the Capitol targeting anyone she might get close to.

Personality:
Flywheel is generally a very quiet, kind, non-confrontational woman, with a caring heart and motherly disposition that the Games weren’t able to take from her. She is greatly empathetic and sensitive, and the task of preparing to send children out to their inevitable death tears her apart inside, mostly because she can’t help but care for her charges while they’re her responsibility, and that inevitably leads to heartbreak. Nevertheless, she is made of much sterner stuff than is readily apparent, as evidenced by her ability to stand up to a crazed mutt four times bigger than her. Those unfortunate enough to earn the brunt of Flywheel’s wrath know to do so never again. She is also the only living D6 victor to have not succumbed to the lure of morphling, even though she’s been sorely tempted at times, preferring to draw solace from the myriad of stray animals she’s taken into her home over the years.

Hunger Games:
Flywheel was Reaped for the 49th Hunger Games when she was 15 years old. She did not really have any hope that she would win, given that her score in training was only a 4; she did not have any combat skills to speak of, and her survival skills were limited to the base knowledge of first aid and healing herbs her mother had taught her over the years.

The head Gamemaker for that year was a dyed-in-the-wool mythology and fantasy enthusiast, and the arena subsequently reflected her passion for wild and exotic locales. The landscape resembled a lush, forested landscape, situated on islands in a myriad of sizes that rose high above a sea of toxic clouds. The only way to cross from island to island was to tightrope on one thick, unbreakable steel cable, with another two set at chest height to serve as handholds. There were hidden grottoes and caves dotted across the terrain, along with a few rivers, lakes, and even a volcano and dilapidated stone castle.

In addition to various wild animals, the Gamemakers had added twelve specialized mutts to the arena, dubbed “Wild Cards.” They were so named because they had been purposefully designed to be unpredictable, even to the Gamemakers themselves, and had an agency and intelligence of their own, in order to add more excitement and drama to the Games. They had each been modeled after a different mythological creature of legend, and either haunted certain specific locations – like the fire breathing Dragon that lurked in the castle near the volcano or the Sea-Wyvern that lived off the shores of the largest inland lake – or roamed the arena freely, like the electricity-controlling Thunderbird or nimble, carnivorous Unicorn…. (To be expanded upon in an upcoming oneshot)

During the course of her Games, Flywheel ended up saving the life of one of these unique Wild Cards, forging a partnership that the Games had not seen the likes of before, nor has seen since.

Post Games:
Even though they could have easily been removed, Flywheel vehemently opposed the idea of erasing the four deep scars on her arm she obtained during the Games, for reasons yet to be explained. After spending a few months recovering from her ordeal, Flywheel decided to open a small emergency clinic in her District that would treat both people and animals if they required it, to feel like she still made a difference in the world. The years since then have been relatively quiet ones. She’s lived in the Victor’s village with her mother, sister, and fellow D6 victors, only venturing outside her district to mentor subsequent tributes when her turn comes, or when Snow requests her “services,” which she grudgingly provides in order to protect her family and best friend.

The way you did the scars was the first thing I noticed. 8D Very cool.
Aw, she's so pretty. And her backstory is interesting (and the whole arena sounds like an impossibly cool setup)... I can't wait to see this upcoming oneshot. 8D

(Also, congrats on getting accepted!)
